Experience
I am an elementary and grade school teacher who incorporates American Sign Language ("ASL") into my teaching plans. ASL is a critical instructional tool for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. When they learn, use, and understand ASL, they are more engaged in their own educations and can participate and interact with their learning peers. ASL is a critical instruction tool for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, or those who have other communications disorders. My students have also used Proxtalkers and Proloquo2go, in addition to ASL, which is a key supplement that allows them to communicate their daily wants and needs. ASL also allows students to see interactions and communications happening around them during the day. I use ASL in my instructional programs to teach writing, grammar and language mechanics, public speaking, elementary and grade school math, and English. I also incorporate ASL when I assist students to prepare for the Secondary School Admissions Test ("SSAT") and Independent School Entrance Exam ("ISEE"). My ASL lesson plans integrate with Common Core Standards to allow me to communicate more effectively with my hearing-impaired students and to give them a better opportunity to succeed in their academic lives and master their individual education plans, goals, and objectives. My accomplishments as an ASL teacher were acknowledged when I was nominated to represent Oak Hill School at the 2015 American School for the Deaf Convention in Connecticut. I fine-tuned my ASL skills at the University of Connecticut, and I currently live in Windsor Locks. When I am not teaching, I enjoy an active lifestyle of swimming, cycling, running, and skiing.
